Hi — I’m Marcelo Mota, founder of Terceira Rent-a-Scooter, and I’d like to share a little story about where this dream started, and how it’s connected to nature, family — and good coffee ☕.
Since I was a kid, I’ve loved motorbikes. As a teen I even practiced motocross, got my license at 14 — riding has always felt like freedom, mobility, and a way to connect with the land around me. That feeling never left.
Years ago, together with my family, we started running Banana Eco Camp, a glamping-style retreat nestled in a tropical, organic plantation on Terceira. Our land produces bananas — but also exotic fruits and a much-loved local product: coffee. We grow, harvest, roast and serve our own organic coffee at Coffee Cabana, welcoming travellers to enjoy a genuine farm-to-cup experience.
When we saw how many guests wanted to explore the island beyond the camp — to discover hidden beaches, volcanic caves, dramatic viewpoints, and charming villages — we realized there was a need for a simple, flexible, and local way to get around. Not everyone needed a car; many wanted the ease of a lightweight scooter — and they certainly didn’t want the hassle.
That’s when Terceira Rent-a-Scooter was born: a small, family-run service designed to embrace the spirit of our plantation and glamping roots — but applied to island mobility.
